This class will explore the various elements of an active shooter incident, including the common behaviors, conditions, and situations typically associated with such events. We'll examine methods for recognizing potential workplace violence indicators and what to anticipate from First Responders in such situations. We will cover the warning signs of someone on a path to violence, such as changes in behavior and observable indicators of stress. We will discuss how to assess the situation to ensure personal and others' safety, including recognizing signs of escalation. CISA will also cover de-escalation techniques, emphasizing purposeful actions, verbal strategies, and body language to diffuse potentially dangerous situations safely. It's essential to understand the importance of promptly reporting incidents through organizational channels for assessment and management and contacting emergency services like 9-1-1 for immediate threats.
